Steven Mawhinney

Steven Mawhinney has been involved with motor vehicle accident investigations since becoming a police officer in 1979, and his specialized training began in 1984. His accident reconstruction training has involved vehicles, motorcycles, pedestrians, commuter & commercial vehicles. He is an Accident Investigation instructor as well as an instructor in the use of laser devices (Nikon Total Station) for measuring crash scenes as well as computer-generated diagrams and animations. Furthermore, Steven has been inspecting commercial motor vehicles for equipment safety and logbooks since 1996.

During his tenure at Bristol Township Police Department, Steven Mawhinney became the head of a very respected accident investigation unit in 2000. He was personally involved in the investigation of every fatal crash that occurred from 2000 to 2011.

Under Steven Mawhinney’s direction the unit was tasked with investigating and prosecuting not only serious but fatal crashes in the township.

Due to the reputation that he developed while in Bristol Township he was called on by the District Attorney’s Office to assist other jurisdictions with their investigative needs. He has personally investigated over 2,500 crashes and assisted on thousands more. Many of these crashes involved the violations of operating while under the influence.
